In the retrospective review of our data, we set out to demonstrate that this procedure
can be performed safely. Therefore, we did not conduct surveys to determine patient
level of satisfaction. A previous long term satisfaction study surveyed 400 patients
who underwent Penuma penile implantation. A total of 81% patients reported being “satisfied”
or “very satisfied” with their results. 6-8 weeks post-operatively 92% reported “high”
or “very high” levels of self-confidence; at 4 years this number was 84%.

A follow up study of 70 patients confirmed these results. 96% of patients reported
being “satisfied” or “very satisfied” after the implant and 85% reported being “satisfied”
or “very satisfied” with how natural their penis looked. 92% were “satisfied” or “very
satisfied” regarding self-confidence after surgery.

We agree that further studies are needed to assess patient satisfaction and the psychological
impact that these procedures may have in the long term. In addition, it is important
to determine the durability and longevity of the implant and its effect on sexual
function. Future studies will address this issue to better counsel our patients. To read this article in full you will need to make a payment
