With this issue I am pleased to formally announce that UROLOGY is now the official
journal of the Society of Women in Urology (SWIU). The mission of SWIU is to support
the professional development and career advancement of women urologists and urologic
researchers through education, advocacy, and mentorship. Women bring distinctive skillsets
and perspectives to and face unique challenges in all professional endeavors, including
the specialty of urology. In addition to providing high quality practice-relevant
content each month, I have been committed as Editor to provide UROLOGY's worldwide
reach as a platform for voices in our specialty that have not traditionally been formally
recognized to help promote their stories and professional efforts. This affiliation
of the SWIU and UROLOGY follows on our recent special issues on Women's Health (edited
by Una Lee, MD) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI, edited by Yaw Nyame, MD
and Tracy Downs, MD), the establishment of a monthly section devoted to DEI, and further
extends the commitment for opportunity of these voices to be heard.
